For Grandma Judy

Dear Grandma Judy,

I really love my present. I especially love the crafty little mittens. I prefer to wear them as slippers. And I find the ensamble keeps me plenty warm. In fact, I don't even need clothes!

Thanks for the great gift!

Love,
Henry

Happy Birthday Little Guy

I can't believe my little man is TWO! It seems to have flown by so fast. I have to make a little disclaimer before I show you pictures of his party... it's a Veggietales theme.
I know.
I despise character parties, but Henry is a big addict of his buddies Bob and L-l-l-l-bob(that would be Larry). So, at Jayson's request, we pulled out the stops for a very Veggie-tastic birthday. And I must admit, Henry loved it.
So sit back and enjoy a few shots of the revelry in no particular order. :o)

The Great Escape

It's happened--and at least a year too soon if you ask this mommy! I walked upstairs about a week and a half ago and to my surprise I heard a knocking from the inside of Henry's room. "That couldn't be my sweet napping cherub...could it?" I thought as I headed toward the room.
knock. knock. knock.
"Momma?" ...... "Momma?".... knock knock... "MOM!!" (yes, you read that right. In addition to crawling out of his crib my son has also begun calling me "mom".
I opened the door and their stood Henry, innocently holding his blankee book, and sippy in his sweet little arms. "Did you get out of your crib?" (Don't you love how as parents we sometimes ask the stupidest, most obvious questions to our children?)
"Uh-huh."
"Did you climb out?"
"Uh-huh."
"Did you hurt yourself?"
"Uh-huh." (with fake sadness)
"Where?"
"mmruph." (rubbing his little blond head)
I told him he shouldn't climb out of his crib because he will fall and hit his head. I deposited him back into his crib and told him to finish his nap. Again. And again. And again.
six times, in fact, before I decided to see exactly how he was performing this great escape.

WARNING: turn down your sound while watching the video!! Although it is a bit funny to hear how he can turn it on and off, Henry is shrieking through most of this clip.

Hence we have officially ushered in the toddler bed. And ushered out (once again) sleeping through the night. I would appreciate any advice on how to make a not-yet-two-year-old stay in his bed
all
night.
Anyone?

Not to be Out Done...

As you can see it's been the week of Evy around here. We started off wtih a bang for her birthday, then school, and she started ballet Thursday; but those of you with personal Henry experience know he is not to be out done. He is determined to share the blogging lime light. And being second-born myself, I am happy to oblige.
Over the weekend Henry developed quite a diaper rash. (Iwill leave the "why" of the particular ailment to your mommy imaginations.) Because of his rosy bottom he spent a day and a half running around a'la Michelangelo's David. Unbelieveably, we only had one incident involving pee and the carpet, but Henry was quick to point out the, should we say, leak.
However, I am beginning to wonder wether our littlest is a bit of an exhibitionist.
Yesterday Henry started out the morning by peeling off his diaper at the breakfast table. Delightful. I diapered him up and quickly pulled on pants (by wich hopefully stopping--or at least slowing--the disrobing). I switched the laundry from washer to dryer and found the monkey atop his sister's (relitively high) dresser. (The wonders of the sister's bedroom while she is at school shall be expounded on at a later date.) Plucking him off of the dressertop with a gummy worm haning out of his mouth I took him downstairs for a bit of Sesame Street. When all else fails, put on the TV, right? While Turbo was enraptured by Big Bird and Snuffy I went quickly upstairs to fold the previously stated load of laundry. I came down the stairs to my Pirate atop the counter eating a cookie looking at me with a face so full of delight and mischief I couldn't help but grin and put him in his highchair to finnish eating his spoils.
Cookie devoured, I snatched him up and we headed upstairs. He explored the afore mentioned Room of Delightfulness while I made a few important calls regarding my Grandma's Affiars.
I was mid-sentence with "Alicia" convincing her in my most matter-of-fact grown-up voice that I could indeed have access to Gram's IRA statement when Henry came streaking--and I do mean streaking--aross the upstairs in a fit of giggles.
This was all well before noon.
Finally I gave the Fully Monty his lunch and put him into his crib for a much desirved nap. What possesed me to leave him in his diaper after the morning's antics I do not know. Of course he ripped it off and proceeded to er...put rain in the forecast for his airplane sheets. When I came into his room to get him up Little Naked pointed at the sheet saying, "uh-oh! Uh-Oh!" repeatedly.
Uh-Oh indeed.

He's a real Wild One!

Henry really had some high moments in our trip to MN. One of them was this classic shot. (Yes, I'll have it apprear in his wedding slideshow) Whenever I would change his diaper, he would streak out to the living room (which held anywhere from 8-12 people) and grab his family jewels giggling. He did this several times to get the swell of laughter that always followed, then he headed up to Mac's room for a little ride.
gotta love that boy!

Mommy notes

Because things are happening so fast with my adventurous little boy, I've neglected sorely his baby book. Being a second child myself I am lothe to think I would not record every detail I did with Evy. So mostly for my own notes later, here's an update on my wonderful 16.5 month old bundle of curious adventures:

*Henry weighs 23 pounds.
*He walks, runs and "dances"
*WORDS: (in order of speaking) Uh-Oh, Roar (when asked "what does a dinosaur say"), hot (thanks to Jacki!), Nose, Eye, Mama, Hi, Dada. He also signs "more" and "all done".
*He has 6 teeth. He has had these same teeth (and no more) for a few months now. He loves them and sometimes just shows them off.
*He is a firecracker. He snatches things with a mischevious grin and runs to "hide" with them in the corner with his back to the wall. When I go to retrieve whatever it is he's taken he delights in the chase and giggles. He will repeat this action until the object is removed from his reach at which time he will have a temper tantrum. *His tempertantrums consist of a dinosaur-like roar. Lately he's been shaking his hands at the same time. It's actually pretty comical, but I do my best not to laugh.
*He is a cuddler. He goes to play then returns to my lap for a quick cuddle, then goes back to playing and back to me like a little baby boomerang.
*He loves walking backwards and running down the driveway.
He loves playing outside, especially with the rollercoaster. He claps for himself excitedly after he rides it. (I'll post a funny video of this later.)
*He doesn't like noodles, or mac and cheese, or any form of potato.
*He sleeps hugging a board book and a cup of water.
*He is a flirt and a tease.
*He loves water and the bath.
*He climbs everything. To the top of his highchair, the table, stools, to Evy's bed, to our bed...thankfully not out of the crib...yet.
*He tries to eat EVERYTHING! Yesterday he repeatedly licked yellow chalk from the driveway. He thought is was funny that it would get all over his face.
*He likes to try to run into the street.
*He doesn't give things to mommy. when I make the request "Give that to mommy" he snatches it up underneath his chin and spins around running the other direction.
*He is always laughing and having fun.
*He's a huge ham and clown. He'll do anything for a laugh.
*He's totally in love with Evy. She has super-star status in Henry's world.
*He pretends he's "Wii bowling" in front of the TV.
*He is a TV junkie.

OK....I think I got it all out, for now.

Uh-Oh

It's official. We're calling it. And if I'm honest, I'm a bit crest-fallen.
Henry has officially uttered his first word.

uh-oh.

He didn't lovingly look into my face and whisper "Mama." I would've even been content (though slightly jealous) if he'd called out "Dada!" first. Instead he dropped his pizza on the floor repeatedly and said "uh-oh."
Then his toy.
Uh-oh.
Then his cup.
Uh-oh.
Pretty much since he's woken up this morning it's been a string of occurrences that must be remarked upon in this way by my beautiful little son.
Over the weekend he also learned to climb, (and fall) from the ottoman, chair, stool and couch.
with two lice little bruises on his face and a big bloody mouth to attest to his climbing prowess.

Come to think of it, Uh-oh might be a suitable first word after all.
